Agassiz Village, nestled in the scenic town of Poland, ME, is a dedicated youth development organization. It provides essential services like complimentary transportation, nutritious meals, cozy lodging, and engaging activities for children who might not otherwise get the chance to enjoy seasonal camp experiences. Each year, it works hard to raise funds, ensuring that kids from Massachusetts to Maine can experience the joy of outdoor adventures. As the camp nears an amazing milestone—90 years of operation—it is clear that significant updates are needed. They kicked off a two-year capital campaign with four essential goals:
1. Repair and update existing buildings for safety and longevity.
2. Expand their programs to invite more young people to connect with nature.
3. Protect their land from environmental impacts.
4. Achieve financial sustainability while continuing to provide scholarships for families in need.
Launching a capital campaign isn’t just about asking for money but crafting a compelling story that inspires donors to get involved. Creating professional and cohesive campaign materials can be challenging but essential for success. All materials must fit together seamlessly to reinforce the campaign's goals and invite potential donors to feel empowered to contribute to the solution. The design needed to connect with Agassiz Village's existing identity while standing out as a fresh initiative—something both familiar and exciting. Recognizing that well-crafted and strategic campaign materials would play a crucial role in the campaign's effectiveness, the organization collaborated with Abstract Union to bring this vision to life.
We crafted a visual language that feels both fresh and familiar—rooted in Agassiz’s existing identity while signaling the forward momentum of the campaign. The color palette draws from the gradient tones found in the organization’s primary logo and expands on them with soft white and warm grey, creating a look that is welcoming, modern, and campaign-ready. We used sans-serif typography throughout to convey a clean, approachable tone that’s easy to read. To evoke nature and movement, organic and rounded geometric shapes were integrated across materials, echoing the camp’s environment and the essence of what this campaign seeks to preserve for future generations. These elements provided consistency and visual rhythm across every piece, resulting in a cohesive experience for every potential donor.
A Campaign Theme Logo That Feels Familiar and New

We designed a logo for Agassiz Village that maintained a strong connection to its primary brand while creating its own identity. To establish immediate recognition, we utilized their core brand colors—red-orange, forest green, and blue—ensuring continuity. We also introduced outlines of nature elements encased within a partial heart, reinforcing the campaign's theme and the nonprofit's mission: providing kids with meaningful opportunities to connect with nature.

A Case Statement Booklet That Inspires Action
A case statement booklet is one of the most powerful tools in a capital campaign. It provides the reason for the campaign, a roadmap of its goals, and clear, actionable ways for supporters to get involved. Its structured message and engaging storytelling make it an excellent tool, from board presentations to fundraiser volunteer training. Agassiz also wanted to highlight the camp's 90-year history, showcasing how it came to fruition and has transformed the lives of countless children. We designed a professional, modern booklet that reflects the camp's vibrant atmosphere. We also added softer tones of off-white and grey to balance the vibrant brand colors and give that professional feel. We designed the layout of each page to be engaging and functional, using color blocking and organic shapes to organize information and highlight important details. Photos were added throughout to show the people benefiting from the camp updates, its history, and the possibilities if the campaign goals are reached.

Set the Tone for the Campaign with a Packet Envelope & Folder
First impressions matter in a capital campaign, so making a visual impact is crucial. A packet envelope is one of the first pieces of material potential donors encounter, serving as a visually appealing introduction and a practical tool that can be sent through the mail or handed out at fundraising events. We crafted Agassiz's packet envelope with impact and functionality in mind, allowing space for mailing addresses while prominently featuring the organization's logo for instant recognition. After donors open the packet envelope, there are several important materials to look over. We’ve created a folder that not only presents all campaign materials in a polished way, but also adds a professional touch. The Agassiz folder is designed to be engaging, bold, and highly functional. On the front, you'll find images of the campers, serving as a visual reminder of why our campaign goals matter. Essential contact information is conveniently located on the inside flap, making it easy to access whenever needed. We’ve also used color blocking to organize information effectively, highlighting the details that truly count.

A Return Envelope that Simplifies the Giving Process

The return envelope was a small yet vital component of the campaign strategy, crafted to remove barriers to giving. Pre-addressed and formatted for convenience, it motivated potential donors to respond quickly and confidently. Whether included in campaign packets, handed out at donor meetings, or made available at nonprofit offices, the return envelope was a gentle yet effective reminder to follow through with a pledge. By streamlining the process, Agassiz Village enhanced the likelihood that supporters would translate their intent to give into an actual donation.
